Author Commented: Justin, here is the whole script, it reads from a CSV which has all the fields filled in, the script creates the user just fine, and fills the home directory field in, when the user logs in, the user does not get a mapped drive but works for folder redirection newusers. You meant it has a home directory field in Ad profile but not mapping the home drive H:? Or it doesn't map other drive that should be from the logon script? The home directory field is populated as is the drive to connect within AD, it does not map when we log into the accounts that are created, the drives that are mapped by the logon script are all mapped correctly, nothing in the logon script references a H drive.

Question 1. The folder creates perfectly, we can browse to it, we use folder redirection for our my documents folder, this writes to the correct location, the drive however does not map. I don't see that in your script with that function.We have an issue regarding home folders being mapped when a user first boots up.

This occurs when users are online and when they attempt to use offline folders. We use the home folder settings on the user account's profile tab in ADUC to map their H: drive to their home folder. Prior to us managing this network, the IT person manually mapped the users' P: drive to a "public" share on their servers.

Scenario 1: User A has a computer which is in the office and is always using a wired connection to the LAN. That user turns on or reboots their computer.

Upon logon, there is no H: drive mapping. The user does, however, have their P: drive. The user logs off and logs back on and they have an H: drive as well as their P: drive. Scenario 2: User B has a laptop which is sometimes in the office connected via wireless or wired connection to the LAN. Other times, User B uses their laptop out of the office.

The user has configured their H: drive to "Always Available Offline". When the user works offline, the H: drive doesn't appear, however the P: drive is there and available offline. Most users were fine, it was just a select few that were having troubles and no matter how many times they rebooted, the home folder would not map. They were able to map it manually.

A brief search on the Internet turned up many folks complaining of this issue but only when using group policy to map home drives. A quick comparison of the accounts that were mapping the home folders successfully as opposed to those who were not, turned up one difference. The users who were having a problem were running a login script. Ah ha!

Users here in my business have been complaining about issues with the Home Folder not consistently mapping.

It's affecting several different users. Sometimes other drives are marked with the red X and disconnected but you can simply open these and reconnect them but the Q drive is missing altogether. The users must restart their machine to get the Q drive to then map successfully. The reason we map users home folder using AD rather than something through a GPO is that we use Citrix for remote users and we found using GPOs to manage their home folders resulted in some strange behaviour.

One user in particular recently got a new computer and he is still having problems daily with his home drive. Where can I look to troubleshoot these few users? I should point out that some are regular users, and others are domain admins that have this issue.

You may use folder redirection in Group Policy, or in Active Directory under profile. If you still have issues after this you may explode, then regain composure and upgrade your Server OS. Can you post a screen shot of the mapping in the Profile, both for this one User and for one of the Users that's seeing this same folder? These others that are seeing this, can they access it or do they get blocked due to permission issues?

We have had these issues for years, even after going to R2 domain controllers and building a new network, for some reasons there are machines that just refuse GP updates. I've done all that both of you have suggested, but with no luck.

I've also pushed the client side extensions to the machines in question and still they continue to confuse me. When I've come across these issues it's normally been because the PC has media card slots, which are hidden in My Computer unless they're in use.
